GENERAL DRINK DRIVE
- About 1 in 7 deaths on Scotland's roads involve drivers who are over the drink-drive limit.
- Nearly 1 in 5 (18%) Scottish drivers have driven over the limit*.
- 25% of Scots admitted to having no idea of what number of drinks would put you over the limit*.
- In the UK, it is estimated that 20,000 lives have been saved in the last 13 years thanks to government drink drive campaigns*.

- Although it is predominately men that are more likely to drink drive, the number of women caught drink driving is rising *.

THE CONSEQUENCES
- If caught driving over the legal limit the next morning, motorists face the same consequences as if they had been caught the night before.
- Drink driving convictions stay on your criminal record for 20 years or until you are forty years old (whichever is longer). Therefore, if you're convicted of drink driving on your 18th birthday you'll have a criminal record until you're 40. If you're convicted when you're 39 you'll have a criminal record until you're 59.
- Drunk drivers face up to fourteen years imprisonment. Other offences include; driving without insurance, speeding and driving whilst disqualified.
- Drink driving convictions mean you may be refused car insurance and will almost certainly have to pay much higher premiums.
